About the Artist
Jana Nicole
US-born, UK-based artist Jana Nicole is acclaimed for her vibrant mixed-media collages that intertwine papercutting, relief sculpture, and organic materials to explore the intricate beauty of the natural world.
Her current body of work, Botanical Troupe, delves into the hidden ecosystems beneath our feet—mosses, fungi, mushrooms, and the vast mycelial networks that sustain life. This groundbreaking series earned her the Prix Puvis de Chavannes from France’s Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, making her the first non-French artist to receive the prestigious honour. By blending hand drawn images with scientific illustration, and natural textures, her work invites viewers to reconnect with the invisible yet vital forces of nature.
Jana Nicole’s broader practice has long bridged the worlds of art and science, aiming to educate and inspire deeper curiosity about the interconnectedness of living systems. Her work has been exhibited internationally and continues to draw acclaim for its immersive detail and ecological focus.
Earlier works include Portraits of the Self, a deeply personal series based on interviews with cultural icons such as Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim) and the late Joe Strummer of The Clash. These portraits reflect not only their public personas but also intimate glimpses into their inner lives, offering a contemplative counterpoint to her nature-focused work.
